The Sea Trading Port of Nikolayev lies nearly 72 miles to the east of Odessa, at the mouth of the river Yuzhniy Bug (Southern Bug), in the northern part of Dniepr. The port is open for navigation the whole year round. Nikolayev is neighboured by the port of Dnepro-Bugskiy, port of Oktyabrsk and Nikolayev River port.
Main export cargoes of the port of Nikolayev are steel scrap, steel products, grain, logs, fertilizers (white and pink chloride of potassium). The main cargoes imported are: refrigerated cargoes (meat, fish, fruits and suchlike), containerised cargoes, oil and oil products.
Annual freight turnover at Nikolayev is about 1.5-2 mln. tonnes.
There are 15 piers at the Sea Trading Port of Nikolayev. Piers Nos. 1-3 serve for transportation of passengers. Piers Nos. 4-14 are used for cargo-handling. Pier No. 15 is the oil-handling point, treating small tankers. More detailed specification:

Pier No. 8سtationing of floating crafts of the port fleet (tugs, pilot launches, bunkering ships, floating workshop and suchlike);

Pier No. 14أomplex of loading of chemical fertilizers (white and pink chloride of potassium) in bulk;
Pier No. 15دil-handling point, importing oil and oil products;
PORTӓ RESTRICTIONS
Vessels with dimensions not exceeding LOA of 215 m and maximum draught of 9.8 are accepted by the port.
For vessels with LOA more than 187 m an escorting tug is compulsory in the approaching channel. For the oversized vessels to enter the port a special Harbour Masterӳ permit is necessary.

Items 3; 4; 5; 6; 13 are subject to overtime.
Portӳ dues and charges are calculated in accordance with state tarrifs
Almost all the dues and charges applicable at the port are calculated basing on a vesselӳ cubic content which is determined by multiplying: LBP x Breadth x Depth moulded.
PILOTAGE
In winter time traffic through the approaching channel is permitted only in convoys escorted by an ice-breaker. Ice period normally lasts from the beginning of December till the first half of March. Passing through the approaching channel is permitted by day time only.
Vessels bound for Nikolayev are advised to be ice-classed. Vessels that are not ice-classed can be convoyed upon a letter of indemnity from the owners is addressed to the Port Authorities via the agent.
Pilotӳ boarding place is Yuzhniy Pilot Station (VHF Channel 16/12, call sign Ҥelta pilotҩ. Dock pilot embarks the vessel at the Inner Roads.
SANITARY REQUIREMENTS
As per requirement of the Ukrainian Sanitary Authorities, all vessels visiting Ukrainian ports are to be fitted with an isolated type of sewage system. Vessels which are not equipped with the same are not permitted into Ukrainian ports.
DEBALLASTING REQUIREMENTS
As per local deballasting regulation, vessels when entering the Black Sea have to change segregated ballast taken in other regions of the World Ocean for the Black Sea ballast. A master should present to a state inspector a written declaration to the effect that segregated ballast onboard was changed, as above.
